Two becomes one!

With much relief, I can report that the house has now been put back together (rather like a large jigsaw puzzle) and is no longer in two sections. Phew! Unfortunately it is still balancing - precariously, if you ask me - on a combination of metal stands and timber supports. I refuse to let the boys walk under the house until it is properly stumped, which should be by Friday if the Sunshine Coast continues to live up to it's name! Some before and after pics below ...

Before - two sections

After - happily reunited!

  1. Just found your blog via Timber and Tin, love your house and think you guys are doing the most exciting thing in the world. If we owned acreage we would be doing the exact same thing, so, no you are not crazy, other people just lack imagination.
Your floorplans are awesome and love the way you write. I too like to write a bit of a story but find my blogs are wordier than most. I am a massive queenslander lover from way back, having grown up in one, renovated one and now starting out with a California Bungalow called Betsy that I love more and more each day. Pop over to bungalowbliss.blogspot.com and have a look at my first few posts back in January to get the background story. Progress around here is slower than I would like (small children) so there is a bit of kiddy stuff and and crafting on my blog as well. I can't wait to follow all your adventures, we must be same vintage as well as I am a Melissa too but usually go by Mel. By the way, the wooden cutouts above your doors are called "fretwork" and yours are particularly lovely- I haven't seen that pattern before. Finlaysons in Brisbane have most of them but they can also laser cut new ones to match the old if you need that for downstairs. Also, hope you don't mind a suggestion on your plans- with your ensuite of bed 5 which I presume is your master you could move the shower door and have it across the opening next to the vanity and have a much bigger shower space or even a double shower- figure if you are in the hinterland you will have no lack of water! Have a great day and welcome to blogworld from another newish blogger. Mel. :)

  2. Thanks for the lovely words Mel! I have actually seen your blog before I think, way back when I was trying to summon the courage to blog myself! I will definitely check it out regularly now. Yes, the fretwork is lovely, you would think with a builder for a husband I would have checked the technical term for that before posting! It was actually one of the things we first loved about the house. My hubby is quite handy, so we were going to attempt to make up replica's ourselves for downstairs. suggestions are very welcome! Bed 5 will actually be our guest room, but we'll be using it for a while until downstairs is finished. Great minds think alike - it's not shown on the plans correctly but the shower door will be beside the vanity (actually considering no door at all). I go by Mel too mostly, and although I probably won't blog about it my world is full of little boys and crafty things too, we sound similar :) Thanks again for visiting my blog, and I hope you have a great day too !
